NORTH COAST PHOTO SAFARIFor more information, call (925) 372-3275 or email: safari@darkroomz.com Advance reservations are necessary Register by August 1, 2006 This year's Mendocino coastline photo safari will provide us an opportunity to photograph the intriguing rock formations of a huge, natural "bowling alley" by the sea. Both beginning and intermediate photographers will benefit from instruction and practice at this special spot on the California coast.
We will also caravan from our comfortable one-room cabins to make images of majestic cliffs overlooking isolated coves dotted with sea mounts, as well as the opportunity to capture the interplay of crashing waves with the fascinating sandstone formations at Salt Point State Park.
The key to photographing in this environment is being in the right place at the right time and knowing which photographic skills to use. Since you will be using whatever available light presents itself, instructor Jerry Ott will present various options for turning a "bad photography day" into great photo opportunities.
Our previous photographic safaris to the Sonoma-Mendocino area have been full of fun and creative energy. Before the last car in our caravan has pulled over, the cameras have started clicking away. What memorable Saturday nights, sitting around the campfire telling stories about the photograph that got away.
We invite you to join us for some truly great photography, plus the camaraderie of other creative people. The images that follow will give you some idea of what we have experienced on previous photo safari trips.

To be scheduled, depending on your interest
if you would like to participate in this photo safari contact us at safari@darkroomz.comStep back into the history of the wild west. At 8,000 feet on the high desert, we will spend an entire day making photographs in Bodie, a preserved ghost town that once was one of the wildest mining towns in the old west. Nearby Mono Lake features mineral deposit tufas that form natural sculpture towers and is surrounded by a unique landscape formed by volcanic forces.
The eastern side of the Sierra Nevada range is characterized by pinyon pine, aspen forests, sage brush and lots of big sky. This photo safari will be completed by a half day of making images in the "backside" of Yosemite.
The safari will begin on Thursday evening with an orientation mixer from 8:00pm-10:00. Photography at Mono Lake and surrounding areas will begin with early morning light on Friday and resume for shooting in the late afternoon.
Saturday will be spent at Bodie, where special arrangements have been made for photographers to use the State Historic Park during non-public hours. On Sunday we will conclude the tour in the high country of Yosemite National Park.
