Janelle Flewellen: Africa 2007
I am a local girl, raised in the Bay Area. I always had a love for photography from an early age, but limited knowledge and equipment. My first camera was a Pentax SLR that I borrowed from a girlfriend whenever I traveled, which was the bulk of my photos. When I purchased my own camera, I stuck with Pentax
My search for camera gear expanded from the Pentax, to a Minolta to the prosumer Canon 30 D. While my gear evolved over the years, my love for photography has also evolved to include scenery, exotic people and wildlife, most of all. Now, I have my sister to share the excitement of photography with me.. We fulfilled a desire to journey to South Africa in 2006 and East Africa in 2007. Capturing wildlife has included local visits to Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge, the Berkeley Botanical Garden, Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, to name a few.
I attended Jerry Otts basic photography class and learned much more than the basics. His class enabled my sister and I to capture a wide range of wildlife shots in Africa and locally.
Jenny began doing photography when she turned 40 and fell in love with capturing portraits of people at "informal, natural and spontaneous moments". While doing her own printing and developing of her black and white images in the darkroom, she often ponders such questions as '"how the act of being creative changes how we feel about ourselves".
Jenny's photography, both in black and white and in color, "focuses on flowers, on people and on the beauty of small things in our daily lives". She is currently working on a project which she titles "The Beauty of Ordinary Women" and is looking for more women of any age to participate.

In a little over a year, my photography has moved from "point and shoot" to creating professional portraits of dogs. It seemed natural to combine both my loves: dogs and photography.
Thanks to a lot of instruction and encouragement, I am now growing a business photographing dogs and their owners. You can contact me through my website at www.michaelt-pet-photography.com.
My father had a camera hanging from his neck for as long as I can remember. When he passed away, I inherited his photographic equipment and found The Darkroom on the internet.
In less than a year, I have taken three darkroom and photography classes, have received private tutoring from Jerry Ott and have had my first photographic exhibition of ten portraits.
Although I have been a Marriage, Family Therapist for many years, my new love is photographing people. My hope for the future is to combine both of these passions in a novel, creative way. I am so grateful to my father for leaving me this legacy, and to Jerry Ott for his wonderful teaching abilities.
